Papers relating to historical paintings, 1987-1988.

Two typescripts written by Eric von Schmidt, relating to paintings made by him: "Sunday at the Little Big Horn With George, presented to the 27th Annual Conference of the Western Historical Association, October 9th, 1987, Los Angeles, CA," inscribed to George [Miles], 1988 Nov 23, discussing von Schmidt's work on a painting of the Battle of the Little Big Horn; and "'The Storming of the Alamo': the Story as Told Through a Painting," 1988, giving a key to images in the painting. Also present are six photographs of an exhibit relating to "The Storming of the Alamo" and a photocopy of La guerra de tejas, by Carlos Sánchez-Navarro (Mejico: Editorial Polis, 1938), with brief holograph manuscript notes by von Schmidt.

Eric von Schmidt was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1931. He has worked as a graphic artist since that time and has been engaged in numerous professions and hobbies. He has illustrated over fifty children's books and over one hundred record and book jackets. He is also a songwriter and musician.
